Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet
This one was also known as Super Beetle Convertible, or simply Beetle Convertible. During the smog-era, it shared the platform of the Super Beetle.
For power it used the 1585cc 1bbl H4 through 1974 and a 1585cc EFI H4 from 1975 onward. The 4-speed manual trans was common between the years. Rear axle ratio was 3.875:1 . Zero to sixty times were horrendous, even for the Smog-Era, at 19.5 seconds! However gas mileage was very good at the time at 25mpg.
The Cabriolet carried the torch for the Bug in 1978 and 1979 as it was now the only car with the word ‘Beetle’ on it sold in the U.S. Gone were the sedan versions. This one was done and over for 1980.
