AMC Spirit
Replacing the subcompact Gremlin in 1979 was the slightly larger compact-class AMC Spirit. Engine offerings were the 232 and 258 cubic inch I-6s, a 2.0L I-4 and a 304 Cubic inch V8. Spirit GT and the AMX based on the Spirit were the ‘tape stripe performance’ models offered. The final model year for the Spirit was 1983.
